J. Sid Garner
Sid Garner passed away on February 19, 2010. Sid was a long time, very trusted advisor for my campaigns and service in the Senate. A career Air Force Officer who's military service spanned World War II to Vietnam, Sid was a devout Christian and dedicated Ronald Reagan Republican.
Sid was part of a group of friends who became my circle of advisors in my first campaign for the open Senate seat in 2004. Along with Rev. Ken Hensley, Jim Tudor, and Cleo Carroll, we met weekly to discuss the primary and runoff campaign progress and to determine the next step to take as we moved closer to winning the seat. Ken has since moved west but continues to serve as our webmaster, Cleo moved on to unknown pursuits, Jim remains a trusted advisor as did Sid right up to the end.
Sid was a native of Mississippi and the prototype of a Southern gentleman. He was wise, cultured, refined and sharp. I could always count on his advice being right on target.
Aside from politics, Sid was a close friend. I felt like I had been kicked in the chest when I got word of his passing. His wonderful wife Mary and I talked two days after his death and she and the family are in our prayers every day.
Thank you Sid for your friendship, wisdom and strength. We miss you greatly already.
John
